OCULUS STORIES

Oculus Stories is a phsychogeographic  analysis of The Oculus – Westfield Center located in downtown Manhattan, New York. The research results in a technological design intervention that enhances the concept of the building. The Oculus is a transportation hub/shopping mall that rose from the remains of 9/11 representing “A bird flying from the hands of a child”. A sign that the people can overcome anything, however, the idea of "hope" does not quite come through as many visitors have expressed.

The phsychogeographic analysis of the building covers the following aspects:

Building Exterior

Location

Scale

Building Interior

Circulation

Compression & Release

Visitor’s Experience

Commuter’s Experience

Light & Shadow

Color & Material

Technological design intervention:

A site specific mobile application that uses the building interior as a surface to share as well as explore stories of love, hope, loss, etc.. Anonymously. Oculus Stories is a VR experience that emphasizes the concept of "Hope" and empathy towards one another.
